As video game retail continues to gravitate more and more to online/subscription models through Steam and other platforms, Gamestop has hung on as the big dog of brick-and-mortar retailers through its focus on exclusives, pre-orders, and used products. In fact, it’s not uncommon to see the company taking pre-orders for games mere moments after the announcement of their (eventual) existence. They have also branched out their used resale inventory to include lucrative markets like classic retro games and NFC-enabled toys like Amiibo and Skylanders....

After being announced some time ago, GE’s HomeKit compatible window air conditioner is now available for purchase. The 8,000 BTU, Energy Star rated unit also works with Alexa, Google Home products, and IFTTT in addition to Apple’s HomeKit. Spotted by AppleInsider, although there are some window air conditioners available abroad that sport HomeKit compatibility, the GE AHP08LX is the first in the US to do so. This unit is suited to cool medium-sized rooms (250-350 square feet) and works with GE’s WiFi Connect app in addition to featuring HomeKit support and more....

A British schools group with a focus on disadvantaged children is giving free iPads to every pupil as part of a program designed to remove barriers to learning at home. The program is being rolled out by Oasis, a group which runs 52 schools in the UK … The scheme is called Oasis Horizons. The coronavirus crisis has further deepened the impact of inequalities between those children whose parents can afford to buy them technology like laptops and iPads for the school work they do at home, and those who have no access to what are now essential educational tools....

On September 17, a French court will be hearing a case brought by the finance ministry against Apple, according to a report by Reuters. Similar to what happened with the Epic Games vs. Apple case, the French finance ministry alleges abusive contractual terms imposed by Apple for selling software on the App Store. According to the report, “the ministry’s lawsuit comes after a three-year probe by the DGCCRF consumer fraud watchdog, which comes under the remit of Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire, who ordered the investigation....
