Yes, you read that right. The Telegraph yesterday ran an interesting piece that caught my attention. The basis for their story is a breakthrough development calling for a chip that can generate power from microscopic body movement such as the human heartbeat or the pinch of a finger. The new chip is “thousands times more powerful” than a previous prototype and it’s based on nanogenerators. Scientists say it’s likely this tech will at some point enable gadgets that don’t require batteries because they will generate power from our body movement....

A Fake Fake Kidnapping When the group convenes at Brooks’ luxurious rented home, he lays out the rules of the night’s festivities - one of them will soon be kidnapped, and the rest of them will be given a set of clues in order to find their missing friend. After a fake FBI agent (Jeffrey Wright, making a fun cameo before getting back to his day job on Westworld this spring) provides the group with their files full of clues, two armed henchmen bust down Brooks’ door, knock out the FBI agent, and begin a brutal brawl through the house with Brooks, who they’re attempting to kidnap....

In a Financial Times story about Apple’s Senior Vice President of Industrial Design Jonathan Ive “emerging from [Steve] Jobs’ shadow,” we get a few interesting stories from ex-Apple employees regarding the design guru’s work ethic. According to an Apple patent application published by the United States Patent & Trademark Office and detailed by PatentlyApple, Apple is working to implement audio transducers in combination with multiple speakers to enable surround sound configurations on MacBook-like devices. Apple’s focus of the patent appears to be improving audio in mobile devices as speakers decrease in size to accommodate smaller and thinner form factors. FX has confirmed that its U.S. TV show version of What We Do in the Shadows will premiere sometime in spring 2019. The series is based on Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi’s hit vampire mockumentary of the same name, but will feature an all-new setting and characters.
