The General Commander trailer teases Steven Seagal’s latest action vehicle. Seagal, of course, rose to prominence in Hollywood after making his acting debut in 1988, appearing in successful films such as Hard to Kill and Under Siege. After headlining 2001’s Exit Wounds, Seagal’s career largely shifted to starring in direct-to-video endeavors, and he’s since added dozens of credits to his résumé. Despite his advancing age (Seagal is now 66), the actor remains as busy as he’s ever been. He was in five films released in 2016 and another two in 2017.
Next up for Seagal is General Commander, which sees him portray CIA agent Jake Alexander, who takes it upon himself to extract revenge against a mob boss that killed a member of his team. The cast also includes the likes of Sonia Couling (A Stranger in Paradise) and Byron Gibson (No Escape). General Commander will soon be available to own on Blu-ray and On-Demand, meaning it’s time to rev up the marketing campaign. Action fans can check out a trailer now.

The short trailer quickly establishes the crux of the narrative, where Seagal’s Alexander steps away from the CIA to form his own team of operatives that will serve justice around the world. As the film’s tagline suggests, this group are heroes without borders and do not answer to any government agency. It goes without saying this sets up a potential conflict between Alexander and the United States, since the CIA probably won’t be too happy about one of their former members taking matters into his own hands and waging a war against dangerous criminals. Nobody’s going to go into General Commander expecting heavy substance, but on-paper it has the potential to explore a compelling moral dilemma about what’s “right.”
Very clearly, General Commander aims to be a throwback to old school action films, the kinds Seagal made his name on many years ago. While those types of movies are no longer the most commercially viable in regards to box office performance, there remains a passionate audience for them, so General Commander should be able to fare pretty well for itself once it hits home media. Going straight to On-Demand sounds like the best avenue for this one to take, as it likely would have been lost in the shuffle if it had a traditional theatrical release. Hopefully, Seagal fans find something to enjoy with General Commander and whatever the actor chooses to do next.
