Out of all the of the latest titles currently being featured at the 2016 E3 conference, Gears of War 4 is among the most highly anticipated and preemptively wel-regarded franchise installments. Serving as the fourth main entry in the series proper, the new title from first-time Canadian developer The Coalition and longtime publisher Microsoft Studios is all set to deliver a brand new narrative set 25 years after the Imulsion Countermeasure weapon decimated the planet Sera, thus ending the Locust and Lambent onslaught.

Starring an all-new protagonist named J.D. Fenix (who is the son of original series protagonist Marcus Fenix and his wife Anya Stroud), the new title will feature a world depleted of fossil fuels following the actions taken in the war against the Locust and the Lambent, wherein an all new threat called The Swarm emerges from the rubble. Even if the first official trailer for the new game didn’t serve to stoke the fires of anticipation sufficiently, the latest trailer and gameplay footage from E3 should go a long way towards building up more hype for potential players of Gears of War 4 the world over.

In the footage featured above from E3, players can get their first glimpse at the kind of third-person carnage soon to come from Gears of War 4. Based on all appearances gleaned from this latest batch of in-game footage, there should be plenty of dramatic world-building, breathtaking environments, and ferocious antagonists to expect from the new title.

The Coalition certainly had a lot on their plate in the making of Gears of War 4, though it would appear as though the team behind the new game will deliver on an experience that will please die-hard fans of the franchise and newcomers alike (including the new and improved Horde Mode, an elite console controller, and the announcement of a PC release and Xbox Play Anywhere cross play for all titles on Windows 10). J.D. Fenix certainly appears to be as capable and heroic a protagonist as his father was, and with any luck the rest of his crew (including Kait Diaz featured above and Delmont “Del” Walker) will prove to be another thrillingly realized military crew reminiscent of the original Delta Squad.

Gears of War 4 is certainly shaping up to be quiet the potential tentpole release for Microsoft, and as such The Coalition will have a lot to answer to and deliver to hardcore gamers when the title finally sees release later this fall. Based on everything that has been seen and revealed about the new game thus far, fans of the franchise probably have nothing to fear and are seemingly in for a real treat come October.

Gears of War 4 will be available to purchase from all participating retailers on October 11, 2016 for Xbox One and PC.
