Daenerys begins her conquest of Westeros in the first promo for next week’s episode of Game of Thrones. After waiting over a year between seasons, fans finally got to return to the world of Game of Thrones with the premiere episode of its seventh season. With the season being delayed due to production requirements for the show’s new Winter climate, and set to be the shortest of any of the seasons to date, the anticipation surrounding Game of Thrones has been higher than it’s ever been before. And for anyone who’s kept up to date with the fantasy series, it’s not hard to see why, since the show had more monumental material and cliffhangers to pick up from this time around than with almost any of its other previous seasons.
With Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) having finally embarked on her journey to the shores of Westeros, just as both Jon Snow (Kit Harington) and Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey) had garnered new royal titles for themselves, it was clear from the very beginning that political tensions in the show were going to be high once again. Tonight’s premiere episode didn’t fail to deliver on that promise either, and it looks like the show is only going to maintain that momentum.
Airing after ‘Dragonstone’, HBO has released the first official promo for the second episode titled, ‘Stormborn’. And with both titles relating in some way to Daenerys, it’s unsurprising that her military operations are front and center in the short promo. However, there’s more than a few other exciting moments scattered throughout the promo for anyone willing to replay the video a few times. But you can check it out for yourself in the space above.
Like with any of the show’s previous premiere episodes, most of the runtime in ‘Dragonstone’ was dedicated to catching back up with characters and setting up the season’s main conflicts again. But with fewer key players to deal, the Thrones premiere also had the ability to spend more time with each of the remaining characters. That included several shocking moments and character deaths, and a prophecy that could bring together, even more, characters against the Night King than had previously been assumed.
The episode also ended with Dany and her comrades arriving at Dragonstone, and instead of taking a moment to sit on its throne, Dany and Tyrion (Peter Dinklage) instead moved straight into the war room – to begin planning their conquest. It was an appropriate note for the episode to end on, that concluded the individual stories within the episode, while also giving the show an ample amount of momentum heading into ‘Stormborn’. And judging by this promo, it looks like the show’s already scattered web of alliances and enemies is only going to become even more tangled moving forward.
