In this Golden Age of Television, audiences have something of an embarrassment of riches when it comes to deciding what’s the best show on right now. While that’s obviously subjective, it’s hard to argue that Game of Thrones isn’t in consideration. From every episode dominating social media to the ratings constantly growing, to the awards and critical praise showered on the show, it’s certainly one of TV’s most popular series right now. Every season is hotly anticipated, with fans literally willing to watch a block of ice melt just to find out the season 7 premiere date.
With that out of the way, it’s now time for HBO to release cryptic Game of Thrones season 7 teases without actually revealing anything. One thing we know will be coming is The Great War, something we have plenty of ideas on. On top of that, there are a number of locations from the books that Game of Thrones has yet to visit. We’re also hoping the new season dives into the history of the Targaryens some more, especially now that we know Jon Snow is one of them.
Talking to Huffington Post, Jon Snow actor Kit Harington addressed whether the wait for the new season will be worth it, and he assured fans to expect plenty of action and character development as their reward:
“Yes, I’m gonna say, ‘Yes.’ I mean I hope it is. I certainly did more this season than I’ve ever done. I think every actor on it did more action, had more action, had more scenes. They really focused it because less characters are coming in, and they’re focusing in on the existing ones, and there are lots of people who cross paths, and that’s something that I think the audience has been waiting for for a long time.”
With the end on its way, a number of characters certainly need to meet. While Harington says that fewer characters will be coming in, we know Games of Thrones season 7 includes at least a few new faces. Jim Broadbent of Harry Potter fame will be joining as an archmaester, helping to flesh out the history of Old Town where Sam and Gilly are currently at. We also know the new season will be bigger, given the smaller episode count. Harrington went on to detail how that will manifest:
It makes sense for Game of Thrones to ramp things up in the home stretch. Seeing as Game of Thrones’ camerawork and cinematography has already earned much in the way of acclaim, expect some extra-exciting visuals this next season. With just thirteen episodes left over the next two years, Game of Thrones still has a lot of plot to wrap up as characters meet, wars are waged, and the fate of the world hangs in the balance. No matter what happens, expect the buzz to be inescapable once the new season premieres.
“They spent an increasing amount of money on less episodes, so it’s gonna be much bigger in scale, the CGI … we’re trying new things, experimenting with new camera techniques. I think we’re trying to break boundaries and push past boundaries in these final two seasons.”
Game of Thrones season 7 debuts on HBO on July 16th.
