The blockbuster HBO epic, Game of Thrones, just set an Emmy Awards win record for fictional television. Currently in the process of filming its seventh and penultimate season, the show is now deep into unexplored territory, having surpassed its source material. While the remaining available story necessitates a slightly shorter final two seasons - a reduction from 10 to 7 episodes each year - those following the story know that there are still quite a few loose threads left to resolve.
Among these is the ultimate showdown between Westeros and Daenerys (Stormborn of the House Targaryen, First of Her Name, the Unburnt, Queen of the Andals and the First Men, Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea, Breaker of Chains, and Mother of Dragons). Also, there’s the small issue of an undead army of White Walkers North of the Wall, gathering to kill all life in Westeros.
The Game of Thrones fan site Watchers on the Wall has discovered some casting news that casts a small bit of light on what fans can expect from the upcoming season of Thrones. The production team is searching for a 30- to 45-year-old “fierce warrior,” over 6 feet tall, with a muscular physique, ideally of Middle Eastern or mixed heritage. While the character is only expected to speak a few lines, the casting requires he has both a charismatic and intimidating presence as he will feature prominently across a number of episodes. The actor will either need to have long hair or be fitted for a long-haired wig, which suggests this character may be Dothraki.
With a massive fleet of Dothraki soldiers at her side, it is likely that Dany will be interacting with a number of new faces during her battle for Westeros. While she made some “adjustments” to the Dothraki hierarchy last season, she’ll definitely need generals to lead her army. There’s nothing the Dothraki respect more than a tall, charismatic, and intimidatingly muscled warrior to lead them into battle. Could this role be something along those lines?
Watchers also pointed out a number of other interesting casting revelations. Among these, the reveal that Paul Kaye would be returning in a much more extensive role for season 7 as Thoros of Myr, leader of the Brotherhood without Banners. This makes sense, as season 6’s “No One,” saw Thoros pitching The Hound a life with the Brotherhood, hopefully for an inevitable showdown against the White Walkers.
