Anticipation leading up to the premiere of the sixth season of the ever popular HBO fantasy-drama Game of Thrones is seemingly higher than ever, with the recently released red band trailer having gone on to break viewership records for any previous series run of the show on the premium cable network. The hype leading up to the show’s premiere episode this year has already seen the show called the “Best season yet” by its creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, in addition to the program’s producers teasing the biggest battle that viewers have seen so far over the course of the show’s past five seasons.

Given the fact that the show will now be moving into new territory and an expanded supporting mythology largely divorced from the published source narrative seen in author George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire novels, it will be of the utmost interest for many fans to see just how far North of the Wall Benioff and Weiss plan to take fans in Game of Thrones season 6. In the latest behind-the-scenes featurette for the show, viewers can see for themselves just how much work goes into the prosethetics and make-up design for the show’s famous supernatural antagonists: the White Walkers.

In the Game of Thrones behind the scenes footage featured above, Prosthetic Designer Barrie Gower takes viewers on a tour of the make-up and special effects department behind the popular HBO original series, and examines the often arduous and time consuming process that it takes to bring the show’s White Walkers to life. Fans who salivated over season 5’s Battle of Hardhome will likely be pleased by what Gower has to offer here, as he takes a look at the painstaking attention to detail that each and every White Walker model is forced to endure (prior to the actor stepping foot on set to begin shooting their scenes).

Undoubtedly many fans of last season’s perilously fraught contest between the men of the Night’s Watch and the White Walker horde are looking forward to even more expert level work from Gower and his team of prosthetic designers in Game of Thrones season 6. With any luck, the team that made “Hardhome” such a winning and unforgettable moment in season 5 will return with an even bigger climactic battle this year - and hopefully, with even more White Walkers.

Until the new season of Game of Thrones finally gets underway next month, fans of Benioff and Weiss’ spectacular adaptation of Martin’s Westeros, and all of its many lands, capitals, and inhabitants will just have to bide their time and await what has been promised to be far greater than anything viewers have seen yet. And with Gower and his team of expert special effects wizards working behind the scenes, there is sure to be another “Hardhome” in the near future.

Game of Thrones season 6 will premiere on HBO on April 24th, 2016.
