Plenty of Game of Thrones fans would have binged a season or two of HBO’s George R. R. Martin fantasy novel adaptation but the network are now offering hardcore followers the opportunity to watch every single episode of the show in one marathon sitting. Game of Thrones wrapped up its seventh season back in August, climaxing with an undead dragon destroying the wall and Jon Snow sleeping with his Auntie Daenerys, while Tyrion lurked ominously outside her chamber.

Filming for Game of Thrones’ eighth and final season is now well underway and the rumor mill is beginning to churn, with reports recently emerging that suggest Jason Momoa may be returning to his Khal Drogo role in some capacity. Before then, however, there’s the small matter of the DVD and Blu-ray release of Game of Thrones season 7. The complete boxset of the latest season is due for release this December and also available will be a seasons 1-7 boxset - a collection that feels curiously incomplete considering the final season is only a year or so away.

To celebrate these DVD and Blu-ray releases, HBO have teamed up with the Prince Charles Cinema in London to hold a full marathon session of every Game of Thrones episode ever. And it’s all free. Spread over the course of four days (27th-30th of November), the record breaking event will, thankfully, include refreshment breaks provided by MOD Pizza and patrons who manage to endure through the entire event unscathed will be entered into a prize draw. For obvious reasons, the event is an over 18s only affair and although the pre-booked ticket allocation is already full, the Prince Charles Cinema will be handing out tickets on the door on each day of the marathon.

Certainly, the prospect of seeing episodes such as “Hardhome” and “Battle of the Bastards” in all their cinematic glory on the big screen would be a tempting one for many Game of Thrones fans. Such is the epic scale of the series, it often feels as if television barely does the production justice. However, given that the event will clock in at around 63 hours of uninterrupted death, breasts and CGI dragons, it will certainly be a test of mental and physical endurance, with many cinema-goers suffering a numb backside after a regular 2 and a half hour movie.

And whilst this mother of all catch-up sessions is sure to have a fan-friendly atmosphere, there’s an argument to be made that after watching a certain amount of episodes in one sitting, the brain ceases to properly absorb any more material. As anyone who has indulged in a late-night Netflix binge can attest, there simply comes a point where the eyes glaze over and it’s time to switch off. With 63 hours to get through, that limit will likely be reached by many in attendance.
