A new video shows the actors who play Game of Thrones’ The Hound and Tormund Giantsbane singing on set. When in character, Rory McCann (The Hound) and Kristofer Hivju (Tormund) haven’t had much to be happy about, let alone sing. The characters were just part of the band of fighters who marched beyond the northern Wall with Jon Snow (Kit Harrington) to capture a Wight in order to prove the existence of the White Walkers.
Needless to say, the group found mostly treachery and death during “Beyond The Wall” in their quest to find a Wight to bring back to Daenerys (Emilia Clarke), although they did manage to wrangle one after a tense battle. Although it’s unclear if they will meet again before the end of the series, The Hound and Tormund managed to strike up some kind of kinship on their journey beyond the Wall. The characters’ chemistry clearly translated well from McCann and Hivju’s off-screen friendship, as evidenced by an amusing new video.
Hivju posted a brief video clip to his Instagram account, showing McCann playing what sounds like The Mills Brothers’ “Yellow Bird” on a guitar while Hivju “sings” along. Neither are in full costume, but they’re clearly on set in their trailers due to having full makeup applied. The caption reads, “When you’ve had too much trailer time…” Check out the video below:

It’s rare to see the two actors smiling and laughing, considering The Hound and Tormund are often two of Game of Thrones’ most gruff, dour characters. But Hivju, in particular, has been no stranger to sharing behind-the-scenes glimpses at the show on his Instagram page. He’s recently shared photos with Thrones guest actor Paul Kaye (Thoros) and stuntmen, as well as co-stars Nathalie Emmanuel (Missandei) and Iain Glen (Jorah). He also frequently posts impressive Tormund fan art.
McCann and Hivju are obviously pretty chummy when the cameras aren’t rolling, and The Hound and Tormund seemed to really be getting along as “Beyond The Wall” went on. The two may never actually share a song on the show, but their performance in the video, as goofy as it was, sounded… not too bad. It should come as no surprise to fans of McCann, who plays guitar, mandolin, banjo, and piano.
Unfortunately, The Hound and Tormund may never cross paths again, let alone strike up a lasting friendship. But with seven episodes still left to go in the series, it seems that there’s plenty of fighting - and off-camera singing - yet to be done before Game of Thrones officially wraps it up.
