A cosplayer at San Diego Comic-Con 2019 dressed up as the coffee cup from Game of Thrones. HBO began the award-winning series in 2011 and this year marked the final season of the show. While season 8 of Game of Thrones was one of HBO’s most anticipated events of the year, the final season didn’t live up to expectations.

While the beginning of season 8 set streaming and rating records for Game of Thrones, things quickly went downhill. The first two episodes focused on characters reuniting and preparing for the battle against the Night King, but the show was heavily criticized in episode 3 “The Long Night”. Many people complained that the episode was literally too dark and others felt that the Night King’s death was anti-climactic after setting him up for eight seasons. Fans were also irked by how rushed the season felt as well as Daenerys Targaryen’s sudden transformation into the Mad Queen. In episode 4 “The Last of the Starks” a Starbucks coffee cup was spotted in one of the scenes, which is all people seemed to be focused on for the episode. Now, the mistake has inspired a Comic-Con costume.

Many people are dressed up as their favorite Game of Thrones characters for San Diego Comic-Con, but one attendee actually dressed up as the coffee cup from season 8. The Los Angeles Times shared the genius cosplay idea on their Twitter which shows the guest walking down the streets of San Diego posing for photos. Check out the full post below:

While showrunners David Benioff and D. B. Weiss were heavily criticized for season 8, they also stirred up a bit of drama this weekend when it was revealed that they would not be attending Comic-Con’s Game of Thrones panel as previously scheduled. Many people believe this was so that Benioff and Weiss didn’t have to face fan backlash in person since they were the two blamed for the controversial final season.

There were many things people didn’t like about season 8, but the Starbucks cup incident was truly just a simple mistake. The error was a blink and you miss it moment and HBO even digitally erased the cup after the episode aired. The coffee cup mistake is clearly not something HBO wants the show to be remembered for, but it’s also clear that people will get what the cosplayer is going for. Despite the negative reviews for season 8, Game of Thrones will live on as one of HBO’s most successful shows, while the Starbucks coffee cup will live on as one of its most infamous mistakes.
