While fans impatiently await the release of Winds of Winter, the next book in George R. R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series, all attention has turned to the upcoming season of Game of Thrones. In the past, there was hope that the two forms of media could keep pace with one another, but seeing as how HBO isn’t slowing down production of the final two seasons of the show, fans will have to decide whether they can bear to wait and watch the omnipresent series until whenever Martin finishes up the next installment. Though the network is mulling over the idea of a prequel, the next two seasons of the show are all we’re guaranteed in terms of content in the near future.
With production well underway for season 7 of the series, set photos are starting to pop up online displaying the cast in their wintry garb. Though the show is roughly slated to appear in the summer of next year, many of the cast members are already fielding questions about where their characters will be headed in the final stretch of the series. Sophie Turner recently touched on Sansa’s growing power, and Ellie Kendrick has provided some insight as to where Bran and her character Meera will be when we catch up with them.
Theon Greyjoy actor Alfie Allen attended the Malta India Comic Con this week, and as reported by Watches on the Wall, he filled the audience in on what we can expect when the new season premiers: “More of the same…but better! More dragons; more torture!”
Though he’s likely being tongue-in-cheek, Alfie is no stranger to acting out torture. After suffering at great length at the hands of Ramsey Bolton, it would be cruel to see Theon returned to the stockades. Perhaps, though, the torturing will be directed towards someone else and dished out by his new queen and her dragons. When asked whether Theon’s current meek and twitchy nature would be continuing as the show moves forward, Allen addressed where his character is at and how that might change.
As the show heads towards its endgame, we’re bound to see a number of characters reunite. With Sansa joining Jon Snow at Theon’s former home (and would-be conquest) of Winterfell, will the young Greyjoy have an awkward reunion with his former foster brother? Allen says don’t believe everything you read, but that doesn’t stop him from speculating as to how that meeting might go.
“Skittish and full of fear…Basically, and then that can kind of, I guess, evolve into rage, which you might see…who knows?”
It’s hard to imagine Theon not having some sort of confrontation with the remaining Stark children before the series ends, but such a big moment is unlikely to be revealed by the actors before any episodes air. Until then, we’ll just have to make due with tidbits from the performers, leaked set photos, and rampant speculation as we await some official promotional material.
“I would say, [Theon] would feel horrible. He’d feel awful. And he’d see it as a chance to redeem himself.”
Game of Thrones season 7 is in production and is expected to premiere in summer 2017.
