Gal Gadot begins preparing for the start of Wonder Woman 2 filming with a social media post of herself in the gym. Director Patty Jenkins will once again helm Gadot’s second standalone flick as Diana Prince. The filmmaker also joins Geoff Johns and Dave Callaham to co-write the movie as former DCEU helmsman Zack Snyder is still attached to produce.

Plot details are still scant at the moment for Wonder Woman 2, but Screen Rant’s scoop from last year that the sequel will see Diana Prince in the ’80s and at the height of the cold war has already been confirmed thanks to a brand new poster Johns shared on social media last week. Chris Pine is also expected to make a return, although it’s currently unknown at what capacity considering that his character, Steve Trevor, was supposedly killed in the first film. The movie will also see the introduction of new characters such as  Kristen Wiig’s  Cheetah - the film’s main villain, as well as Pedro Pascal, in a yet to be disclosed role.

Ahead of filming kicking off, a slew of fan-posters mining inspiration from the WW84 teaser poster has emerged online, hyping fans up for the film. It would be an understatement to say that there are some high expectations for Wonder Woman 2 considering how successful (both critical and box office) the 2017 movie was. And with most of the people involved in Diana’s origins flick coming back for the follow-up, it won’t be that much of a problem as most have already established working relationships with each other. This is important especially since the sequel won’t have the same luxury of time when it comes to production compared to Wonder Woman.

It’ll be interesting to see if Jenkins and her team will have enough footage shot by the time San Diego Comic-Con rolls around for at least a short teaser. With Marvel Studios skipping Hall H this year, Warner Bros. and DC are expected to make the most of it by preparing a memorable presentation that will also feature James Wan’s Aquaman and David F. Sandberg’s Shazam!. It’s also curious if an official slate will be announced considering that anything beyond 2019’s Wonder Woman 2 has yet to be confirmed.
