Gabrielle Union, a former judge on America’s Got Talent, rang in the new year with an Uber driver destroying her bathroom. It wasn’t the family’s ideal way of opening 2020, but it sure made for a good story.

Union has been in the news the past few months, after speaking out about the way she was treated during her time on America’s Got Talent. It was revealed in November that she had been fired. Union said that while working as a judge, she was exposed to racially insensitive comments, including being told her hairstyles were “too black.” Guest judge Jay Leno was implicated in her complaints, as was Simon Cowell. Julianne Hough was also cut from the judging panel, although she has not raised any concerns about her experience on the show. Throughout this process, Union has said she could rely on her husband Dwyane Wade for support. The investigation is still ongoing, as America’s Got Talent prepares for another season in March.

What Union experienced on New Year’s Eve was a little different. The actress shared on Twitter that her Uber driver had taken a number two in her home. Wrote Union, “Trying to be responsible & use UBER & our driver asked to use our bathroom.” Not long after, Union explained, the man had “dropped a deuce.” This event made Union grateful that her residence was so accommodating, but clearly she was also a little perturbed by the decision of the man who drove her home. She tweeted, “Welcome to 2020 folks.”

Some on Twitter came after Union for shaming her Uber driver. One user wrote, “That’s such an elitist thing to do. I would have expected from you. Shame on you on shaming someone who is trying to make a living, and needed a bathroom break.” Uber’s Twitter account, @Uber_Support, however, replied to Union’s tweet with a request to reach out, stating, “That definitely should not be happening.”

While her story may sound both funny and cringeworthy, it’s not really something to laugh at. Her Uber driver certainly would have liked to have avoided using her house to poop and probably would not have done so if it hadn’t been an emergency. On New Year’s Eve, this worker was probably driving late into the night and had no other choice. Union’s intention was to share a story that she found interesting, but it may have backfired because it actually made her sound out of touch with reality.
