FX continues to push for its place as the most interesting network on television with a first look trailer at Fosse/Verdon limited series starring Sam Rockwell and Michelle Williams. The series was announced in the summer of 2018, and promised a compelling look into the life and love of acclaimed filmmaker and choreographer Bob Fosse, as well the relationship he shared with Broadway great Gwen Verdon.

It’s an ambitious project that seems right up both Rockwell and Williams’ alleys, as it affords the Academy Award winners a chance to star in what will likely be labeled a prestige TV drama, albeit one that will likely appeal to a wide audience, as it counts Lin-Manuel Miranda and The Americans’ Joel Fields among its producers, and “also stars Norbert Leo Butz as Paddy Chayefsky and Margaret Qualley as Ann Reinking.”

With the series set to premiere in April, those who are unfamiliar with Bob Fosse will have plenty of time to watch some of his films, like Cabaret, Sweet Charity, Lenny, and, of course, the semi-autobiographical All That Jazz. But, from the look of things, Fosse/Verdon won’t require viewers to have encyclopedic knowledge of the pair’s collaborations and exploits.

“Spanning five decades, Fosse/Verdon explores the singular romantic and creative partnership between Bob Fosse (Sam Rockwell) and Gwen Verdon (Michelle Williams). He is a visionary filmmaker and one of the theater’s most influential choreographers and directors. She is the greatest Broadway dancer of all time. Only Bob can create the groundbreaking musicals that allow Gwen to showcase her greatness. Only Gwen can realize the unique vision in Bob’s head. Together, they will change the face of American entertainment – at a perilous cost.”
