Foods that start with ‘F’ are fun foods that warm the heart and delight each taste bud. Unfortunately, most of them get eaten without being taken notice of their alphabetical value. AFRICAN FOODS THAT START WITH THE LETTER ‘F’

  1. FRIED RICE: Even though the concept of Fried Rice is known globally, Nigerian Fried Rice is a heart warmer to guests at any typical Nigerian event like birthdays, weddings, parties, etc. It is a stir-fry meal mixed with veggies such as carrots, green peas, sweet corn, and red onions. Served with any meat of your choice, it is a meal that Most Nigerians hold dear to their hearts.

  2. FUFU: FUFU (alternatively spelled Foofoo) is a boiled and pounded cassava swallow predominant in West Africa and, quite interestingly, the Caribbean due to migration. Other times, the cassava is left to begin its fermentation. After which, it’s processed, drained of the water, and then the paste is cooked until a white ball of fufu is ready for swallow. It is mostly served with any chosen soup.

  3. FISH PEPPER SOUP: This is a local recommended remedy when winter comes calling. It’s mostly prepared with catfish, spiced with hot habanero pepper with other basic ingredients, and paired with rice, yam, plantain, or eaten alone.

  4. FUNKASO: Commonly found among the Hausas, FUNKASO is a form of doughnut that’s deep-fried and served either as a side dish to a main meal or as a snack.

  5. FREJON (Beans in Coconut Milk):  This is regarded as a ‘holy meal’ as it is mostly eaten during the Holy Week by Christians, Catholics across the World. Its popularity is known in Brazil, Nigeria, and Sierra Leone on Good Fridays. FREON is a simple pureed bean dish with coconut milk and served with tomato sauce, most preferably.

  6. FEJIOADA: Taking about 5 hours to prepare, FEJIOADA is a black bean and mixed meat stew. It is well known in Portugal, Angola, Cape Verde, and Guinea Bissau and mostly regarded as Brazil’s national dish.

  7. FRIKKADEL: This is a South African meatball, served with a sweet tomato sauce, rice, or mashed potatoes.

  8. FESIKH: Fesikh is a traditional Egyptian meal that consists of salted and dried gray mullet served alongside scallions, beans, or eggs. In ancient times, Fesikh was believed to have ensured a good harvest when offered to the gods. 

INTERNATIONAL DISHES THAT STARTS WITH THE LETTER ‘F’;

  1. FRITTATA: This is an Italian omelet dish prepared with meat, cheese, or vegetables. A FRITTATA can also be made out of fried plantains (alternatively known as plantain FRITTATA). It can either be fried or baked.

  2. FRENCH FRIES: Also known as chips, French fries are made out of potatoes. These potatoes are fried in batches until they are crisp and golden brown. 

  3. FILET MIGNON: Tender, buttery and lean, filet mignon is a cut out from a significant part of a cow’s carcass from the smaller end of the tenderloin. It’s mostly fried in butter or grilled until it’s deep brown and crusty at the sides.

  4. FRITTERS: Fritters are deep-fried pastries that are either made from meat, seafood, fruit, vegetables, or any other ingredients which have been breaded. It can be both sweet and savory, depending on individual preference.

  5. FRUITCAKE: As the name implies, fruit cakes are made of candied or dried fruits, nuts, and spices. One can decide to or not soak it in edible spirits. It’s typically served at weddings or Christmas celebrations. 

  6. FETTUCCINI: This is a Roman and Tuscan Cuisine. It’s a flat, thick pasta made out of an egg, flour, and driefriedgh. It can be made from Spinach as well as substituting the dried dough with spinach.

  7. FEDELINI: Fedelini is an Italian pasta (thinner than spaghetti but has the same length) that’s quite popular in Naples, Genoa, and Liguria. It’s often served with tomato sauce. 

  8. FORD HOOKS – Ford Hooks is a species of Lima beans simmered to make a broth. Their seeds are not thrown away but used to make a special broth and be flavored by any meat of one’s choice.

  9. FRANGIPANE: This is a special treat for custard lovers. It is a sweet almond-flavored cream used in diverse ways, such as filling for tarts, cakes, and pastries. It can also be referred to as almond cream.

  10. FRAPPE: Frappe is a Greek iced coffee made from a blended mix of instant coffee, water, sugar, and milk. Funnily enough, this treat was discovered by Dimitris Vakondis, a Nescafe staff in 1957 as a result of an experiment.

  11. FRICANDEAU: It is a French dish composed of thinly sliced veal (meat gotten from a calf) stewed, fried, or served together with a sauce. It can also be used to make a pot of stew.

  12. FRICASSEE: A fricassee is a stew that’s made with pieces of meat drowned in butter and served together with potatoes, rice, pasta, etc. It has been described as a classic French dish.

  13. FRUIT SALAD: Even though served as an appetizer or dessert on most occasions, fruit salad is an absolute taste delight. Its ingredients are not restricted as different varieties of fruits can be added and enjoyed together. However, it’s commonly made up of pineapple, bananas, berries, grapes, and watermelon.

  14. FRANKFURTER: A frankfurter is a pork sausage that’s made up of both beef and pork. It can be served as a grilled, boiled, or fried meal, depending on the preference. It’s named after the city of Frankfurt am Main in Germany. It was introduced into the United States in 1900 and has become an American favorite ever since.

  15. FRITADA: Fritadas are Ecuadorian dishes made up of pork immersed in water, orange juice, onion, garlic, and cumin until the liquid is dried up and it becomes brown. Its full name is fritada de chancho meaning pork fry-up. It’s typically a weekend dish that’s savored in all nooks and crannies of Ecuador.
