Despite all the prestige dramas and Marvel action series currently populating Netflix’s roster, it could be argued that no new or returning series carries with it more buzz among the general populace than does Fuller House. The show’s teaser has already set records for viewership on Netflix’s official Youtube channel, and each new piece of info seems to draw even more attention to the return of one of TV’s most successful family sitcoms of all-time.
A revival of long-running ABC comedy Full House, Fuller House reunites the Tanner clan inside the same San Francisco house that once played host to the original series’ mix of wacky hijinks and sentimental life lessons. Mirroring the setup of its progenitor, Fuller House centers on a grown-up D.J. Tanner (Candace Cameron Bure), a mother of three who was recently widowed. Needing help taking care of her kids, D.J. enlists her younger sister Stephanie (Jodie Sweetin), and best friend Kimmy Gibler (Andrea Barber), and the three move in together. An additional ingredient in the mix is Ramona, Kimmy’s teenage daughter from a previous marriage.
Adding to the nostalgia, the recurring cast is comprised of pretty much every other Full House cast member, including Tanner patriarch Danny (Bob Saget), Uncle Jesse (John Stamos), Joey (Dave Coulier), Aunt Becky (Lori Loughlin), and even D.J.’s ex-boyfriend Steve (Scott Weinger). Sadly, neither Mary-Kate or Ashley Olsen will be returning as youngest Tanner daughter Michelle, as both are likely too busy running the gigantic business empire they jointly created as children.
As you might imagine, the classic Full House theme song Everywhere You Look will also be coming back for Fuller House, although with an updated twist. Canadian pop star Carly Rae Jepsen - perhaps still best known for her meme-spawning breakout hit Call Me Maybe earlier this decade - has recorded a brand new rendition of the song, although we apparently won’t get to hear it until the 13-episode debut season of Fuller House actually premieres. Jepsen made the announcement of her participation via Twitter, which was then made official via a Netflix retweet.

Considering the confirmed return of 99% of the original Full House cast, and the use of identical sets, it’s actually a bit strange that Netflix and Fuller House’s producers elected to revamp the theme song at all. With the promotion of Fuller House focusing on activating America’s collective nostalgia for both the original Full House series and the prosperous decade of the 1990s, one could argue that it would have made more sense to just bring back the classic version of Everywhere You Look, and have the cast simply re-stage the opening credits sequence that fans are already familiar with in a manner that reflects the changing dynamic of the revival. On the other hand, if Jepsen’s cover takes off, the digital sales would stand to make the people behind Fuller House lots and lots of money. So there’s that.
Fuller House will premiere on Netflix on February 26th, 2016.
