Is Frequency season 2 likely to happen? Time travel has always been a classic sci-fi staple since fans of the genre will always be fascinated by the implications of the idea. From Ray Bradbury’s short story A Sound Of Thunder - which is credited with the term “butterfly effect” - to The Terminator and even Avengers: Endgame, it’s a rich concept to explore. One movie that offered a cool twist on time travel was 2000’s Frequency, which involved a man somehow making contact with his late father 30 years in the past through a ham radio. He manages to save his father’s life, which has unexpected repercussions for the future.
Frequency starred Dennis Quaid and Jim Caviezel and is a gem of a sci-fi thriller. It did decent business upon release and received good reviews, but it appears to have gradually faded into obscurity in the years since. The CW saw the potential in revisiting the premise for their TV reboot in 2016. This take on Frequency featured the same basic concept, with a New York cop named Raimy Sullivan (Peyton List, Gotham) able to speak with her late father Frank 20 years in the past thanks to his old radio. Needless to say, the butterfly effect soon rears its head once she attempts to meddle with time.
Baring the traditional logic holes that come with dealing with time travel stories, Frequency received a good critical reaction. This was mainly thanks to the warm relationship between Raimy and her father, played by Riley Smith (Gallowwalkers). The first season finished airing in 2017, so is another season likely?
Frequency Was Canceled By The CW In 2017
Despite the good reviews the show just didn’t receive the ratings The CW were looking for, so Frequency was canned in May 2017. The network also canceled their apocalyptic comedy-drama No Tomorrow at the same time, with neither series lasting beyond one season.
The CW Gave Frequency An Epilogue
One of the most frustrating thing for fans of a given show that’s suddenly canceled is the lack of resolution. In Frequency’s case, it ended on a cliffhanger where the radio is destroyed and the Nightingale Killer goes free. In a classy move, The CW gave viewers resolution for both Frequency and No Tomorrow by releasing short epilogues.
The Frequency epilogue has Frank repair the radio and confirming the killer was caught and died in jail. Raimy later gives him the date he dies and orders him not to leave the house that day, but the radio cuts out before he can confirm he received her message. An older Frank then appears behind her, confirming he got the message and they embrace.
Frequency Season 2 Won’t Happen
While it’s not uncommon for cult shows to be resurrected, Frequency season 2 is unlikely. The epilogue provided a satisfying - and complete - ending for the show, and it’s unlikely another network would see the value in reviving it now. At least fans of the series got some closure, which is rare for a canceled show.
